Long-time BVB professional Lukasz Piszczek spoke in the kicker meets DAZN podcast about his time at Borussia Dortmund – and explained when the biggest break in the successful era with coach Jürgen Klopp took place.

“We had a great team, the time was phenomenal, and a lot of friendships developed,” said Piszczek, who won the 2011 championship with BVB and won the double in 2012. In 2013, Dortmund only narrowly failed in the Champions League final at Bayern.

Then Mario Götze went to Munich for 37 million euros – in retrospect, this was the biggest turning point for Piszczek: “Mario went to Bayern – that was the biggest break in the team because they showed us that we wouldn’t play together forever. That was a shock because we were wondering what could happen if we continued playing like this, “said the Pole.

But Piszczek is not mad at Götze: “Everyone is responsible for their decisions. Mario wanted to switch to coach Guardiola at the time,” said the long-time BVB professional.

Piszczek on Klopp’s end: “That was normal”

Jürgen Klopp finally left Borussia after seven successful years together in 2015 after a complicated season in which the Westphalia briefly played against relegation. At the end of this era, Piszczek said: “This intense time cost all of us, including the coach, a lot of energy and strength. I think that there had to be a break in some way. That was normal. But at the end of the season We did qualify (for the Europa League, editor’s note). It’s just a shame that the coach decided not to go any further. “

After winning the Cup with Dortmund in May, Piszczek ended his professional career and joined his youth club LKS Goczalkowice-Zdroj in the fourth Polish league at home. “I play for fun, I ended my career in Dortmund,” said Piszczek, who made 382 competitive games in eleven years at BVB (19 goals, 64 assists).
