Manuel Akanji on the future in Dortmund: "Nothing I want to change at the moment"

Under the new coach Marco Rose, center-back Manuel Akanji (26) is one of the permanent staff at BVB. However, the Swiss has not given any thought to his future in Dortmund.

“At the moment I’m actually concentrating fully on the team and trying to do my best. And then we’ll see what the future brings with it,” Akanji said in an interview with the kicker. In general, however, he feels “very comfortable with the team and with the coaching staff. There is nothing I want to change about that at the moment.”

In recent years, the Swiss had to struggle with his susceptibility to errors again and again. The fact that things are going so much better this season is obviously due to external help. “I’ve been working with a mental trainer for about two years now. He’s helping me a lot, even if we usually only talk on the phone for ten or 15 minutes before the games,” said the 26-year-old. His one and a half year old son is also an important emotional support for him, says Akanji.

“And of course you go into the game with a better feeling and greater self-confidence if you play consistently well over a longer period of time. I feel very comfortable in this team,” said the Swiss, explaining his recent good performances.

Akanji has so far not even thought of taking a voluntary break to regenerate himself – on the contrary: “I like to play every game. That’s what I’m here for, that’s what I’m used to from the past few years. I feel very good and fit. I want to play every game . “

Akanji has made a total of 19 competitive appearances for BVB in the current season. His working paper in Dortmund runs until 2023.
