Maria KeaneManuel Neuer (35) is said to have questioned the partnership between FC Bayern Munich and the state of Qatar, which has been criticized for human rights violations, when running his club. That reports the image.
Accordingly, in a conversation about six months ago, the captain asked about the background to the situation of human and workers’ rights in the host country of the 2022 World Cup and then questioned the partnership. According to the report, some other players would also welcome an end to the collaboration.
The topic recently came into focus because active fans of the Südkurve drew attention to it with a banner during the game against SC Freiburg. On it could be seen the CEO Oliver Kahn and President Herbert Hainer and the words “For money we wash everything clean”.
FC Bayern has been organizing its winter training camps in the Qatari capital Doha since 2011. The logo of the state airline Qatar Airways has been emblazoned on the jersey sleeves since 2018. The contract, which runs until 2023, brings in around 20 million euros a year for FC Bayern.
After a corresponding fan application, a vote on ending the partnership is to be held at the annual general meeting of FC Bayern on November 25th. You can find all the background information on the topic here.
