Marcel Sabitzer is moving from FC Bayern Munich to Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund have signed Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern Munich. BVB officially announced this on Monday evening.

The 29-year-old has signed a contract with BVB until 2027 and will wear the shirt number 20. Dortmund is said to be paying a transfer fee of around 20 million euros to FC Bayern, where Sabitzer was under contract until 2025.

“Marcel is an experienced player who has been playing at the top international level for years. He corresponds exactly to the profile we were looking for: a central midfielder who will strengthen us both defensively and offensively as a box-to-box player,” said BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl, adding: “Marcel is physically strong and also exudes a lot of goal danger. We are convinced that his personality will also become an important pillar of the team and that he will come to us, especially in competitive games will help even more penetration.”

The newcomer also had his say: “I can hardly wait to finally join the team and wear the BVB jersey. The discussions with Borussia Dortmund’s managers were excellent and showed me how ambitious the club wants to be in the coming years. I would like to do my part to ensure that BVB achieves its goals and has every reason to celebrate something special with its fans again as soon as possible.”

As the Picture reported, Kehl is said to have convinced the newcomer to forego a salary of 2.5 million euros plus bonuses. Now Sabitzer is to receive around 7.5 million euros annually from BVB.

“Wanted player” Sabitzer, as he was called in the official announcement, will fly to the USA on Tuesday to meet his new team-mates there for the first time. Borussia traveled to the United States on Monday, and the runners-up have three friendlies on the agenda there.

After the departures in midfield of Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid), Raphael Guerreiro (FC Bayern) and Mo Dahoud (Brighton & Hove Albion), Sabitzer is likely to play an important role in BVB coach Edin Terzic’s headquarters.

In the summer of 2021, the Austrian came to FCB from RB Leipzig for a reported sum of 15 million euros. In Munich, the midfielder completed 54 competitive games in which he scored two goals and two assists.

In the past second half of the season he was loaned to Manchester United. Sabitzer made 18 appearances with the Red Devils (three goals, one assist).
