Mats Hummels has extended his contract with Borussia Dortmund, which expires at the end of the season, by a year. BVB confirmed this on Wednesday.
“I am very happy that Mats Hummels is staying at Borussia Dortmund for another year. He identifies very much with our club. BVB and Mats simply belong together,” said BVB boss Hans-Joachim Watzke.
Hummels himself said: “Everyone knows how much fun it is for me to play with our fantastic fans at Signal Iduna Park. I didn’t make the decision lightly. It was a long process of deliberation. Now, at the end of the season, I can say: I’m really in the mood for another year.”
The 34-year-old moved to Dortmund from Bayern Munich in 2008. In 2016, the 2014 World Champion returned to Munich before rejoining Borussia in 2019.
