Matthias Ginter will leave Borussia Mönchengladbach

Borussia Mönchengladbach will have to do without Matthias Ginter for the coming season! The 27-year-old will not extend his foal contract, which will expire in the summer. Ginter announced this on Instagram.

“After long deliberations, I decided not to extend my contract, which was due to expire in the summer. After 5 great years at Borussia Mönchengladbach, it is very difficult for me to take this step, but I have decided to do it again for my personal and professional development to take a different path in my career, “wrote Ginter.

The national player continues: “I owe a lot to Borussia and will always have the club and the great fans in my heart. Now the second half of the season is full. Whoever knows me knows that I will give everything for them possible goals together this season. Stay healthy and see you soon, your Matze. “

The Ginter personality was repeatedly discussed in public in Mönchengladbach, sports director Max Eberl had repeatedly emphasized that he wanted to keep the defensive boss with the foals. And yet he couldn’t get Ginter, who will be 28 years old in January, to stay.

It is still unclear where Ginter’s path will lead. Allegedly, FC Barcelona should have been interested, and clubs from Italy and England should also deal with the national player. For the 27-year-old, the move has to be carefully considered; a move abroad currently appears most likely.

Ginter came to Gladbach from BVB

The central defender moved from Borussia Dortmund to the Lower Rhine in 2017 for a transfer fee of 17 million euros. Since then he has played 165 competitive games for Gladbach, scoring ten goals.

The move to Gladbach turned out to be the right one. There he developed into a high performer and a solid support. Also in the national team, Ginter is one of the established forces, even if he recently had to prove himself again under the new national coach Hansi Flick.

At Mönchengladbach there is still a lot of work waiting for Ginter until the end of the season. The foals limp as table 14. clearly lagging behind their own ambitions. Coach Adi Hütter is under criticism, and Ginter’s performance has fluctuated recently. 32 goals conceded from 17 games do not meet the demands of the defensive boss – until the farewell in summer, Ginter now has the opportunity to lead his team back to higher regions of the table.
