National player Jonas Hofmann suspected of shoulder injury

Five weeks before the start of the World Cup in Qatar (from November 20th), international Jonas Hofmann from Borussia Mönchengladbach may have suffered a shoulder injury. “There is a suspicion of a shoulder joint rupture,” said Gladbach coach Daniel Farke on Tuesday evening sky.

“We hope it’s not that bad.” It is “very likely that he will be absent for a while”. In the second round of the DFB Cup at second division Darmstadt 98 (1-2), the midfielder fell on his shoulder and the 30-year-old was substituted at half-time.

Hofmann is considered a safe World Cup driver in the squad of national coach Hansi Flick, he was in the starting lineup for five of the last six international matches. “If you see the last games, you have to say that he’s already set,” said Flick in the summer and described the player as a “fixture”. Participation in the tournament could now become a race against time.

Goalkeeper Yann Sommer also suffered an ankle injury, according to Farke. “We’ll have to wait for the exact diagnosis. It’s possible that he’ll miss a bit,” said the VfL coach, referring to the Swiss national player.

Sommer twisted his ankle early in the game while intercepting a cross. The 33-year-old was initially able to continue playing, but eventually had to be substituted after just twelve minutes. Tobias Sippel came on for Sommer.
