Maria KeaneBreakdown in the Bundesliga game Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Bayer Leverkusen (5:1): The video assistant referee (VAR) Robert Schröder had given referee Frank Willenborg a hint about a foul play in the penalty area and the resulting yellow-red card for Piero Hincapie from Bayer. However, Willenborg was not able to look at the pictures himself as usual.
“We had the problem that we couldn’t bring the pictures to the referee’s video monitor,” said Schröder on Sunday in a one-two sports1 about the situation. Leverkusen’s Ecuadorians were sent off and Eintracht were penalized. This was converted by Daichi Kamada (72nd) to make it 4-1.
“Frank Willenborg had a wrong perception in that case. He thought the ball had been played,” explained Schröder: “I described the scene to him and gave my professional classification. There is so much trust that he has in me listen.” In such an exceptional case, it is important to work together “as a team”.
