Peter Neururer new S04 coach? Fake news causes a stir

A Schalke fan apparently duped Peter Neururer with a fake message and wanted to offer him the vacant coaching job at Schalke 04. The 67-year-old did not fall for this joke.

As the sports picture reported that a fan obtained Neururer’s phone number and sent a message claiming to be Schalke sports director Rouven Schröder. The club is interested in signing Neururer as the new coach and is asking for a callback, the message said.

The fan is even said to have set a photo of Schröder from the Internet as a profile picture. However, Neururer easily uncovered the fake. According to the report, Neururer saved Schröder’s correct number on his mobile phone, but the message came from an unknown number.

In addition, Schröder jokingly called him “trainer”, but the introduction to the message said “Hello Peter”. Neururer had already reported the incident to the club.

The cult coach was on the sidelines at Schalke 04 from April 1989 to November 1990. Later he also worked for Hanover, Cologne, Bochum and Duisburg, among others. Neururer has a total of 14 coaching engagements at 12 professional clubs.

The self-confessed FC Schalke 04 fan earned a reputation as a firefighter during his time as head coach in Germany. After a disappointing start to the season, the Royal Blues are bottom of the Bundesliga with just six points from eleven games. Coach Frank Kramer was fired just over a week ago, and Thomas Reis is being traded as his successor.
