RB Leipzig is committed to a new sports director

RB Leipzig has internally decided on a candidate for the post of sports director – but Mario Gomez, who is already in the media, is not. “Mario Gomez is not going to be sports director,” confirmed managing director Oliver Mintzlaff, “we didn’t even talk about it.”

However, Mintzlaff (46) admitted that he was in general exchanges with the friend of his ex-national team. “Mario Gomez is basically an interesting personality for us because he is someone who has a charisma, who has seen a lot, who has won the Champions League, who has gone through ups and downs,” said the RB boss.

The successor of Markus Krösche, who has switched to Eintracht Frankfurt, will be replaced by someone else. “We have one that we concentrate on,” revealed Mintzlaff, who would like to present the new sports director on January 1st if possible. The much worse alternative would be July 1st.

Even without the sporting director position being filled, RB had “by far the best transfer window” in the summer, said Mintzlaff, “and I don’t mean the financial results, but the processes and procedures”.

Technical Director Christopher Vivell and Commercial Director Sport Florian Scholz played a large part in this.
