Maria KeaneThe next corona scare for RB Leipzig: After coach Jesse Marsch and goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi, six other people from the team and the surrounding area have tested positive for COVID-19.
The club announced this on Friday afternoon. The players affected Willi Orban, Yussuf Poulsen, Hugo Novoa and Mohamed Simakan.
All six people are in quarantine at home. In the 55 other people examined, Thursday’s PCR test was negative. Coach Marsch and the five RB professionals are therefore out of the home game on Sunday (5.30 p.m. / DAZN) against Bayer Leverkusen, which takes place in front of empty ranks in accordance with the Corona Protection Ordinance.
The Poulsen case is particularly spicy. The Danish international flew to the Champions League away game at Club Bruges (5-0) last Wednesday despite a calf injury and sat on the bench for moral support. According to the Bild newspaper, he is said to have even given a motivational speech in the cabin before kick-off.
“As usual, we are in close contact with the health department and will continue to test closely,” said RB in a statement.
