In the 5-0 success of the record champions in Stuttgart, the Pole scored his goals for the season 17 and 18 in the Bundesliga. In relation to the current calendar year, it was his goals number 41 and 42 – Lewandowski equalized Müller’s previous record from 1972.
And Lewandowski’s hunt for the record is not over yet: on Friday the world footballer has the chance to secure the only Bundesliga record for goals scored within one year at the first half of the season against VfL Wolfsburg.
In the preseason Lewandowski cracked Müller’s 40-goal record from the 1971/72 season with 41 goals this season.
