SC Freiburg - transfer rumors about Schlotterbeck: "Everything is possible"

Freiburg’s sports director Jochen Saier remains calm about the departure of shooting star Nico Schlotterbeck. “The fundamental decision as to whether he is going or staying has not yet been made,” he said table football on Thursday.

After strong performances this season, Schlotterbeck has attracted the interest of Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, but his contract runs until 2023. “There will be a process of consideration and a decision together with him,” said Saier.

The “decision” is therefore primarily related to how attractive the offers for Schlotterbeck are. After all, the 22-year-old left foot is an “absolute difference player” for Freiburg.

Even further cooperation beyond 2022 and a loss without transfer in the summer of 2023 would be conceivable for Freiburg, says Sauer: “Anything is possible, especially if we don’t think the general conditions are right in the summer.” With all the rumors about a departure, a contract extension for Schlotterbeck is also possible.

Schlotterbeck: From Karlsruhe to Freiburg

According to “opta”, Schlotterbeck has won the fourth most duels this season in the league (162) and is only behind Wataru Endo (VfB Stuttgart, 164), Danilo Soares (VfL Bochum, 165) and Lucas Höler (SC Freiburg, 190). The central defender is also in a solid sixth place in aerial duels.

In 2017, Nico Schlotterbeck moved from Karlsruher SC to the Freiburg Academy together with his brother Keven (formerly TSG Backnang). He then made it into the first team and was loaned out to Union Berlin last season.

He only missed two competitive games this season: in early January he had to sit out against Bielefeld and Dortmund due to an infection with the corona virus. Freiburg lost both games, conceding a total of seven goals.
