Schalke 04 apparently want to reduce employee salaries if they do not advance

FC Schalke 04 is preparing for a possible second season in the 2nd Bundesliga and apparently wants to temporarily reduce employee salaries in order to compensate for the missing Bundesliga income.

“At the end of November the board presented the employees of the administration with models which, after individual and voluntary approval, would lead to a salary reduction in the coming season only in a second division scenario,” said S04 board members Christina Rühl-Hamers (finance) and Peter Knäbel (Sports) in the image quote.

“Only employees who exceed a certain monthly salary are eligible. This is one of many measures that are intended to ensure long-term job security,” explained the Schalke team.

According to the report, cuts of up to 15 percent are planned. This applies to top earners with more than 12,000 euros per month. In the gross salary group of 3,500 to 5,000 euros, however, it would only be five percent.

However, S04 would repay the saved money to the respective employees in the event of a promotion to the Bundesliga in 2023 – and add 1.2 percent interest. For the whole thing to be implemented, apparently 80 percent of the workforce must agree.

Ideally, those responsible for sporting director Rouven Schröder want to prevent this scenario: “Everyone who signed on Schalke knows about the responsibility for the club. That is why that is no extra motivation for us. We are all aware that this is what it is all about To bring Schalke back up, “he said Super 2 – the cult league. After the 4-1 win against Nuremberg, S04 is in fourth place with 29 points – tied with HSV on the relegation place.
