“It was very emotionally charged,” said Rode after the 2-1 defeat against Dortmund sky. In injury time, Rode, who had already been substituted at the time, complained massively to fourth official Nicolas Winter about a referee’s decision, and the Eintracht captain stormed angry and cursing at the 30-year-old.
“There is a little history with the fourth official, he taught us referees in the summer,” explained Rode, raising allegations against Winter: “It wasn’t really that great. He made a somewhat arrogant impression and even when we had questions, that they asked didn’t respond normally. That’s why I got a little carried away.”
Rode received a yellow card for freaking out on the sidelines. The penalty scene between Karim Adeyemi and Jesper Lindström was hotly debated afterwards. Referee Sascha Stegemann later described it as a wrong decision to have denied the SGE a penalty in the situation.
