Silas is celebrating a comeback after eight months

The comeback of VfB Stuttgart’s fan favorite Silas Katompa Mvumpa after eight long months triggered a wave of relief among the Swabians.

“It was then that the team, the fans and the stadium realized that everyone missed him,” said coach Pellegrino Matarazzo. Silas was substituted on in the 85th minute in the 2: 1 (1: 1) against FSV Mainz 05.

Matarazzo found the 23-year-old Congolese’s performance “quite okay”. However, one notices that he needs “a few more weeks”, emphasized the coach, “a lot is missing when it comes to grains and stamina”.

His return “is simply good,” said Matarazzo: “Not only because of his quality, but also because of his character and the positive spirit that he brings with him.”

Left-back Borna Sosa, who scored the winning goal, was also happy about the winger’s return. “I had the feeling that the stadium exploded,” said the Croatian: “It’s also emotional for us after this serious injury.”

Silas Katompa Mvumpa tore a cruciate ligament in his right knee in a duel against Bayern Munich (0: 4) on March 20. With 13 goals and five assists in 27 competitive games, he was an absolute top performer at VfB last season.
