Sports director Rouven Schröder tore his Achilles tendon

RB Leipzig’s new sports director Rouven Schröder starts his first day at the Bundesliga club on Saturday with a handicap. The 47-year-old has after Picture-Information Torn his Achilles tendon in a sports accident and had to have an operation on Wednesday.

According to the club, his start on Saturday in the Bundesliga game against his ex-club FSV Mainz 05 is not in jeopardy. “A mishap happened,” confirmed press spokesman Till Müller at the press conference on Thursday.

Schröder had terminated his dormant contract with FC Schalke and will form a duo with the Saxons from April 1st with sporting director Max Eberl. “Rouven will support me in the areas of squad planning, scouting and licensing,” Eberl said in March.

Coach Marco Rose has not yet exchanged views with Schröder. “I know he’s a good guy and has always done a good job in terms of content. We’re happy about any high-quality input,” said Rose on Thursday.
