Substitute players laugh at bankruptcy against Gladbach on the bench

Despite the bankruptcy against Gladbach, Boyata and Dardai were in a great mood.

As if the defeat against Borussia Mönchengladbach and the associated slipping into a direct relegation zone wasn’t bad enough, two Berlin substitutes were also noticed during the game with inappropriate behavior on the bench.

While coach Tayfun Korkut, who was about to be kicked out, gave instructions to Santiago Ascacibar on the sidelines after 24 minutes, the TV cameras caught Dedryck Boyata and Marton Dardai laughing at each other on the substitutes’ bench – not exactly appropriate given the 0-1 deficit and the general sporting situation.

Although Hertha improved after the change of sides after a previously very poor performance, the capital city found no answer to the further goal by Matthias Ginter. A 0:2 defeat was recorded in the end. Dardai and Boyata spent the entire season on the bench, with Suat Serdar, Anton Kade, Marco Richter and Jurgen Ekkelenkamp coming on as substitutes.

For Berlin it was the fifth defeat in a row, since VfB Stuttgart had previously taken a point at Union, the old lady slipped to 17th place. For Korkut it could have been the last game at Hertha.

“We’ll talk again – calmly, and then we’ll see,” said sporting director Fredi Bobic, announcing that there would be “no heck of a lot”. Korkut has only been training Hertha since November 29, 2021, when he succeeded Pal Dardai.
