"The crisis is not quite over yet"

Bastian Schweinsteiger has warned his former club FC Bayern. At the same time, the 2014 world champion emphasized that he does not see Munich’s current situation as critically.

“The crisis isn’t quite over yet,” said Schweinsteiger at a sponsorship meeting in Berlin, alluding to the negative series of four previous games without a three-pointer in the Bundesliga that was broken with the 4-0 win against Bayer Leverkusen.

The next few matches will show how strong FC Bayern really is, said the 38-year-old, warning in particular of the first knockout games in the Champions League next year.

“You have to be careful. When you reach the Champions League round of 16 and play against teams like Villarreal, the little things matter,” said Schweinsteiger: “If you make mistakes, you’ll be punished, you’re eliminated and the season is more or less less bad. Even if you become champion, you are not happy in Munich.”

Last season, Bayern failed against Villarreal in the quarter-finals. After a 1-0 defeat in the first leg in Spain, they only managed to draw 1-1 in the second leg.

Schweinsteiger: FC Bayern “of course not happy”

In the Bundesliga, Bayern have only picked up 15 points from eight games this season. The German record champions are in third place, each two points behind leaders Union Berlin and SC Freiburg.

“I don’t see it as negatively as it’s being discussed,” said Schweinsteiger. “But of course you’re not happy if you don’t win four games.”

Schweinsteiger played for FCB from 1998 to 2015. With the Munich side, he was champion eight times, won the DFB Cup seven times and won the 2013 Champions League.
