Back on track: FC Bayern is still at the top of the table - but the fight for the championship is still open.

The Bundesliga is rapidly approaching the end of the 2022/23 season. The 32nd matchday is coming up at the weekend – SPOX will show you which decisions can already be made there.

The Bundesliga is in the final stretch of the season. The Bundesliga is probably more exciting this season than it has been for years, both the title and the relegation battle are hard-fought. After the 31st match day, which brought about victories for championship rivals Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund as well as triumphs for relegation candidates Hertha BSC Berlin and Schalke 04, no significant decision has yet been made.

Matchday 32 could change that. Even if some decisions are still outstanding after the coming weekend, individual teams can already set the course for the new season.

It’s time to look specifically at the table. SPOX shows you all scenarios: These decisions can already be made this weekend in the Bundesliga.

Bundesliga: These decisions can already be made this weekend – the championship

These games will be decisive in the fight for the championship on matchday 32:

  • FC Bayern vs. Schalke 04 (Saturday, 3.30 p.m.)
  • BVB vs. Borussia Mönchengladbach (Saturday, 6.30 p.m.)
  • RB Leipzig vs. Werder Bremen (Sunday, 5.30 p.m.)

Realistically, only FC Bayern and BVB are still fighting for the championship in the final spurt of the 2022/23 season. Theoretically, however, even RB Leipzig could still intervene in the title fight. The Red Bulls are eight points behind Bayern, seven points separate RB from BVB. But it also means: If FCB or Dortmund win after the 32nd match day, Leipzig is mathematically out of the title fight.

Otherwise, the course can be set, but there will be no decision. While FC Bayern can pull away by a maximum of four points with a win against Schalke 04 and a defeat by BVB at home against Borussia Mönchengladbach, Dortmund can only lead by a maximum of two points after the 32nd round.

Bundesliga: These decisions can already be made this weekend – international business

These games are crucial for the fight for international business on Matchday 32:

  • Union Berlin vs. SC Freiburg (Saturday, 3.30 p.m.)
  • VfL Wolfsburg vs. TSG Hoffenheim (Saturday, 3.30 p.m.)
  • VfB Stuttgart vs. Bayer Leverkusen (Sunday, 3.30 p.m.)
  • RB Leipzig vs. Werder Bremen (Sunday, 5.30 p.m.)

Even in the international rankings, many decisions will still be open after the 32nd matchday. For example, the fight for the Champions League ranks is postponed for another week. RB Leipzig (3rd place, 57 points), Union Berlin (4th place, 56 points) and SC Freiburg (5th place, 56 points) are fighting for a place in the top 4.

The situation is different in the fight for the Europa League: RB, Union or SC Freiburg would have to lose so that Bayer Leverkusen, in sixth place, still had a chance of winning the Europa League. Before matchday 32, the gap between Leverkusen and fifth place is eight points.

There will be no definitive statements in the fight for the Conference League. Both Bayer Leverkusen, sixth in the table, and VfL Wolfsburg, seventh, can still enter the new competition after matchday 32. Theoretically, even Mainz 05 could still intervene in the fight.

Bundesliga: These decisions can already be made this weekend – the relegation battle

These games are crucial for the relegation battle on matchday 32:

  • 1. FC Köln vs. Hertha BSC (Friday, 8.30 p.m.)
  • FC Bayern vs. Schalke 04 (Saturday, 3.30 p.m.)
  • VfL Bochum vs. FC Augsburg (Saturday, 3.30 p.m.)
  • VfL Wolfsburg vs. TSG Hoffenheim (Saturday, 3.30 p.m.)
  • VfB Stuttgart vs. Bayer Leverkusen (Sunday, 3.30 p.m.)

The situation in the basement of the table is just as explosive as in the title fight. A total of six teams can theoretically still be relegated. The fight against relegation will not be completely defused on matchday 32 either, the most important decisions will still be pending.

However, some teams can already jump off the shovel on this matchday. Both FC Augsburg (13th place, 34 points) and TSG Hoffenheim (14th place, 32 points) could celebrate if the competition made a mistake on Sunday evening. However, both need wins in their respective games on Saturday.

Schalke 04 (15th place, 30 points) as well as VfB Stuttgart (16th place, 28 points) and VfL Bochum (17th place, 28 points) will still be in the middle of the relegation battle after matchday 32.

Hertha BSC could be the only team that cannot save itself after the 32nd matchday. If the Berliners lost at 1. FC Köln and Schalke 04 won at FC Bayern, the saving bank would move into an unreachable distance.
