Theses for the 6th matchday: BVB needs a Haaland replacement in winter

At Hertha BSC, clapping is apparently becoming a habit, while Union Berlin is reminiscent of Atalanta Bergamo. And BVB has to readjust in the attack. The theses for the 6th Bundesliga matchday.

Hertha BSC: Overconfidence is in the Champions League format

In the end it was a whopping 4.55 xGoals that RB Leipzig shot out against Hertha BSC. And in real life that was enough for six hits against an opponent who once again did not reach a Bundesliga format. On paper, this may have surprised one or the other after the results of the last few weeks.

But if you look at the performances of the two teams and, above all, those of Hertha in the last victories against Bochum and Fürth, this collapse was anything but unexpected. But it still doesn’t clarify how on earth the Berliners had actually imagined it in Leipzig and how one can go so negligently into a game against one of the best teams in the league?

The assumption: At Hertha, not everyone has understood that this season is more against relegation than a place in international competition. The overconfidence of some players has apparently already reached the Champions League format. The services show a cellar child who is overwhelmed in all respects. As long as the false claim-based thinking does not come close to reality, it will not change. And embarrassing appearances like in Leipzig are becoming the rule and not an exception.

Gladbach’s Königstransfer is only 18 years old

Speaking of Hertha: Until a few weeks ago, Luca Netz also played there. The teenager made his breakthrough as a Bundesliga player in Berlin, for which Hertha scored his first goal. Netz would have been a promise for the future, but Hertha let the bearer of hope move to Gladbach for four million euros – and Netz quickly followed in the great footsteps of the eternal Oscar Wendt. The 18-year-old played big in the 1-0 win against Borussia Dortmund and had an enormous influence on the hosts’ game.

Netz slowed down Thomas Meunier, who was recently very strong, against the ball and kept putting strong offensive accents, including firing the most shots on goal of all players on the pitch – although he was only allowed to play for 70 minutes before he was replaced by Hannes Wolf. Strictly speaking, Netz was Borussia’s only transfer this summer, but Mönchengladbach made a very good choice with the youngster.

The symbol of the Stuttgart problems

VfB choked themselves to one point against Bochum, but remained without a win in the fifth game in a row. VfB lacks this lightness that made the team stand out last season. This applies to all phases of the game and is best documented at Wataru Endo. The Japanese are actually a bank, the hinge between defensive and offensive. But Endo is following the barely existing summer break, its continuous stress for almost a year and a half is becoming more and more of a problem. Endo has been parked for the Olympics and has so far also taken all trips for the Japanese national team as part of the World Cup qualification. That is why Mister Reliable seems a bit overplayed and that is noticeable in a midfield constellation with Orel Mangala, who has only returned after a six-month injury. Perhaps VfB, as an employer, would have to speak to the player and the Japanese association because of the international game suspension in October. After all, having an endo on the back burner does not help anyone.
