Tuchel apparently met with Salihamidzic for over three hours

In February 2018, Thomas Tuchel allegedly met for over three hours with sports director Hasan Salihamidzic from FC Bayern in his house in Grünwald to sound out a possible coaching engagement in Munich.

That goes from the book “Bayern-Insider” by image-Reporter Christian Falk. Accordingly, Salihamidzic was convinced of a commitment by Tuchel after the meeting. Even before that, the then chairman of the board, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, would have spoken out in favor of Tuchel.

The change ultimately failed because of ex-president Uli Hoeneß, who wanted to convince the then coach Jupp Heynckes to continue after his contract expired in summer 2018. When the latter finally refused, Tuchel had already given his word to Paris Saint-Germain.

Christian Streich from SC Freiburg was subsequently discussed as a possible alternative at FC Bayern, before Niko Kovac was kicked off from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Kovac won the double before being fired at the end of 2020 and replaced by Hansi Flick. Tuchel moved from PSG to Chelsea in 2021 and won the Champions League there.
