Uli Hoeneß on the Schalke crash: "Too many different people tried"

Bayern Munich’s former president Uli Hoeneß has im OMR-Podcast named possible reasons for the crash of Schalke 04 including relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga.

Over the years, “too many different people tried” with the “miners”, said Hoeneß. Clemens Tönnies had been in office for a long time as chairman of the supervisory board, “but he doesn’t know that much about football,” he said.

Football expertise is crucial for successful work in this business. “It turned out, and that is not a criticism of him, that many entrepreneurs have to understand that football is something different”.

Hanover’s Martin Kind, for example, he values as one of the “best German entrepreneurs”, and yet he “just doesn’t manage to make something clever out of Hanover”. The reason: “Because I think you have to have played football at a certain level to really see through. And above all, the players take it seriously.”
