Maria KeaneBundesliga club VfB Stuttgart can again plan with the recently injured Borna Sosa and Erik Thommy in the relegation battle. Both are available again in the away derby at SC Freiburg on Saturday.
Attacker Silas Katompa Mvumpa also returned to training this week. “He made a fresh impression. We’ll see if it’s enough for a place in the squad,” said coach Pellegrino Matarazzo on Thursday. Questionable are Philipp Förster (cold), Clinton Mola (hip problems) and Daniel Didavi (knee problems), who had to stop training on Wednesday.
After losing 2-0 to Leipzig, Stuttgart fell back to a relegation zone. Despite the precarious situation, he still feels “no unrest about me and the team,” said Matarazzo. But there is “the one or two percent uncertainty that you work against. I feel that everyone wants to go along with it”.
It bothers him, however, “that we don’t score the goals, why don’t we do that? There are players who make eight out of ten attempts in training – but not in the game. That annoys me extremely.”
Nevertheless, you saw against Leipzig “that the team was willing and that they showed unity on the pitch. We need this attitude again against Freiburg. But we mustn’t lose even one percent,” stressed Matarazzo. Freiburg is a “strong opponent”, the VfB coach continued: “It’s about seeing the chance, believing in the chance and going full throttle.”
