RB Leipzig - 1. FC Köln 3: 1: Nkunku dream goal paves victory against harmless billy goats

The previous tail light VfL Bochum disenchanted the 3-0 (0-0) victory Europa League winner Eintracht Frankfurt.

The fans of VfL Bochum celebrated their protégés enthusiastically. “Oh, how beautiful that is,” chanted the spectators on Castroper Strasse after the 3-0 (0-0) win over Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt finally brought the longed-for first win.

“We played with passion again today, put the opponent under pressure. They didn’t find a solution,” mused VfL captain Anthony Losilla sky. He missed the victories, “it was a difficult situation”. Now the spell is broken, first win of the season for the Westphalians.

Philipp Hofmann (71st) scored the opening goal for the hosts, an own goal by Evan Ndicka (87th) and a goal by Philipp Förster (90th + 1) ensured the final score.

With four points, Thomas Letsch’s team regained contact with the saving bank and remained unbeaten in their own stadium for the second time in a row. Eintracht’s Euro-Adlers, on the other hand, failed to draw level with the top group on points, at least temporarily, with their fifth win in six games.

“On the whole we played a really bad game and deserved to lose,” commented Eintracht sports director Markus Krösche critically: “We have to be at 100 percent in every game, today we were at 50, 60 percent, then you can do that don’t win the game.” Sebastian Rode stated at sky: “Once again there was a lack of consistency.”

After the painful 4-0 defeat at RB Leipzig, the hosts wanted to make amends in front of their own audience. Letsch made three changes and switched to a back four.

His opponent Oliver Glasner also switched to a back four and rotated his team vigorously through five positions compared to the Champions League duel with Tottenham Hotspur. Among other things, Rio World Champion Mario Götze returned to the starting lineup.

From the first minute, the home fans loudly cheered every successful action of their team. The technically superior Frankfurters had the first chance: Lucas Alario narrowly missed the goal from Bochum goalkeeper Manuel Riemann (7th). Simon Zoller clearly missed a first opportunity for the hosts (17th). Shortly afterwards it was Alario from Argentina again, but Riemann parried his shot (23′).

As a result, the game flattened out and there were few and far between chances to score. Shortly before the break, Götze shot an attempt wide of the goal from outside the sixteen (43′), in return Gerrit Holtmann failed to save SGE goalkeeper Kevin Trapp (44′).

In the second half, too, most of the action took place outside of the two penalty areas. SGE striker Rafael Borre then came out of nowhere in the penalty area and his attempt hit the post (63′). After a corner for VfL, it was Hofmann who scored the acclaimed opening goal for the hosts with a header. The spell was broken and unity could no longer hold back.

VfL Bochum – Eintracht Frankfurt: The voices

Thomas Letsch (coach VfL Bochum): “In this situation it was important for us to bring intensity and mentality to the pitch from the start. It was a great game from us and a deserved win.”

Oliver Glasner (Eintracht Frankfurt coach): “It’s a very bitter defeat for us, for which I take 100 percent responsibility. It was my line-up, my system change. A lot of things didn’t work out the way we imagined. That’s why it’s a very bitter one, but deserved Defeat.”
