Werder Bremen wins test thanks to Burke brace

Maria KeaneWerder Bremen celebrated their first win in the second friendly of the pre-season. Coach Ole Werner’s team beat second division club Karlsruher SC 2-1 (0-1) in Zell am Ziller, Austria. The match winner was newcomer Oliver Burke, who shot the North Germans to victory with a brace (46th/86th). Simone Rapp gave KSC an early lead (4th).
The promoted team surprisingly lost the first test 3-1 against third division newcomers VfB Oldenburg. The next opponent next Saturday is Besiktas Istanbul. On August 1, Werder meets regional league side Energie Cottbus in the DFB Cup, and in the Bundesliga six days later, Bremen take on VfL Wolfsburg.
