Maria KeaneAttila Szalai, formerly in the SK Rapid youth team, is said to be about to move to Chelsea. A transfer sum of 23.4 million euros is reported.
From the Rapid Academy, Attila Szalai went through all the youth departments up to Rapid Vienna II. Against SCR Altach, the central defender even celebrated his Bundesliga debut for the professionals for 77 minutes. But in the summer of 2017 the Hungarian said goodbye to his homeland in Mezőkövesd.
Two years later, Szalai moved on to Apoel Limassol. The 192-centimeter giant made the jump to Fenerbahce Istanbul via Cyprus. There the now 21-time team player draws attention to himself with strong performances – now the leap onto the big football stage could succeed.
According to the Turkish media, Thomas Tuchel wants to guide Szalai to Chelsea in January. The blues are said to put 23.4 million euros on the table for the 23-year-old. Should the transfer actually take place, Rapid would also earn money – the green-whites would be entitled to a solidarity contribution in the mid six-digit range.
