Maria KeaneTottenham Hotspur is battling a major corona outbreak ahead of their Conference League game against Stade Rennes on Thursday. Eight players and five coaches from the top English football club have tested positive, according to team manager Antonio Conte.
“The number is growing every day, it is a serious problem,” said Conte on Wednesday during a virtual press conference. “That worries me very much. There is no point in talking about football. At the moment we don’t know what tomorrow will be. Then who’s it? Me? Another? It’s contagious. We all have families and are scared”, he said.
According to the regulations of the European Football Union (UEFA), the game must take place if the Londoners have 13 active players (including a goalkeeper) from among the 25 registered professionals. The Spurs Premier League game at Brighton Hove and Albion is scheduled for Sunday.
