Eddie Howe is the new team manager at Newcastle United

The English first division club Newcastle United have signed Eddie Howe (43) as their new team manager. As the table penultimate of the Premier League announced on Monday, Howe signed a contract until 2024.

The Magpies are thus pushing ahead with the personnel restructuring after the controversial takeover by a consortium from Saudi Arabia.

Howe was still a coach at the second division AFC Bournemouth until the summer, where he had also spent most of his playing career. “It’s a great honor to be the head coach of a club of this size and history. It’s a proud day for me and my family,” said Howe. Howe succeeds Steve Bruce in the ambitious Magpies, who left his position on October 20 by “mutual agreement”.

A consortium, which is largely influenced by the Saudi Arabian state fund under the control of the highly controversial Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, took over Newcastle around a month ago for the equivalent of around 350 million euros. The Premier League waved the deal through despite vehement criticism from human rights organizations.
