Erik ten Hag apparently caused Ralf Rangnick to be fired

New manager Erik ten Hag appears to have played a key role in Ralf Rangnick’s sudden departure from Manchester United. This reports ESPN.

The roles seemed clear: Erik ten Hag will be the new coach at Manchester United and will succeed interim coach Ralf Rangnick, who will take over as a sporting advisor as planned. But it was precisely this constellation that ten Hag apparently did not want to see and thus gave the impetus for the surprising separation, which was announced on May 29th.

As ESPN reported, there were discrepancies early on after the change, because ten Hag apparently refused a meeting with Rangnick regarding an orderly handover and instead only preferred to telephone. Rangnick, on the other hand, wanted to hand over the field in a larger meeting.

The bosses of Manchester United are also said to have been upset about the German because Rangnick spoke extensively about club politics in a press conference after the end of the season, and in particular the statements that the club needed up to ten new signings in the summer were not well received .

The refusal of ten Hags coupled with the dissatisfaction of the club bosses were ultimately reason enough to end the consulting work, which was originally intended for two years, before it even began. Apparently, Rangnick also had to sign a non-disclosure agreement when he left.

Ralf Rangnick has now succeeded Franco Foda as Austria’s national coach and no longer holds any other advisory functions.
