Erik ten Hag cuts Cristiano Ronaldo from the squad

Manchester United have suspended Cristiano Ronaldo for the upcoming Premier League game against Chelsea. The Red Devils officially announced this on Thursday.

“Cristiano will not be part of the team that plays Chelsea on Saturday,” United said. “The rest of the squad is fully focused on preparing for this clash,” explained the club.

CR7 had left the stadium before the final whistle in the 2-0 win against Tottenham in the Premier League on Wednesday – probably out of anger and disappointment that coach Erik ten Hag had not nominated him for the starting XI.

the Daily Mail reports an even greater affront to the Dutch coach’s authority. Accordingly, Ronaldo is said to have refused his substitution shortly before his departure.

The striker saw the opportunity to play as a joker in the game as an insult and is said to have made his way to the dressing room. Ten Hag hadn’t fully used his quota of substitutions with three substitutions, so he could have sent two more players onto the field.

Cristiano Ronaldo: full suspension?

As The Athletic reported, it could also be more than a short-term suspension. According to this, Ronaldo should no longer be in the United squad after the game against Chelsea and should also train alone.

The Portuguese had already pushed for a change in the summer, but no club was found that wanted to afford the former world footballer. In the league, he was only in the starting XI on three out of twelve matchdays.
