Frank Lampard is set to take over as interim coach until the end of the season

Frank Lampard is set to return to Chelsea. As reported by several media outlets on the island, the former English national player should take over as interim coach at the 2021 Champions League winner and look after the professionals until the end of the season. Loud The Athletic all parties have already agreed on this.

Chelsea, who are disappointingly eleventh in the Premier League, sacked Graham Potter on Sunday. Since then, several well-known team managers have been traded, including former Spanish national coach Luis Enrique and Bayern’s ex-coach Julian Nagelsmann. There are said to be five names on the club’s shortlist. A long-term solution should be filtered out of them in peace while Lampard brings the season to an end.

Lampard spent much of his successful playing career at Stamford Bridge and won the Premier League and several English championships with Chelsea. From 2019 to 2021 he also worked there as a coach, but not with the desired success. In January 2021 he had to leave and Thomas Tuchel took over. Under the German, the Blues won the Champions League a few months later.

Lampard was most recently manager at Everton FC, but had to resign there three months ago after around a year in office.

The Guardians reports Lampard will sit on the Chelsea bench for Saturday’s away game against Wolverhampton Wanderers. He is also bringing his coaching staff to London with Ashley Cole, Joe Edwards and Chris Jones.

The first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals at Real Madrid follows on Wednesday. This is Chelsea’s only chance of a title this season.
