Kevin De Bruyne and Thibaut Courtois are colleagues in Belgium’s national team and get on well. But that wasn’t always the case – and it was due to a woman.
If you are behind in football, you should try to equalize as soon as possible. If, however, affairs and not goals are counted, the big question is whether you really want to score the 1: 1 – or rather the game, i.e. the relationship, is lost right away.
Caroline Lijnen knows a little about football, after all, she was with one of Belgium’s most famous footballers: Kevin De Bruyne. And she answered the question about the affair settlement for herself in a special way, namely with an affair with Thibaut Courtois, De Bruynes teammate from the national team.
Lijnen reported to the Belgian magazine in 2014 story of the story that happened during her three-year relationship with De Bruyne. At first she fell behind: “In the summer of 2012 Kevin told me that he was having something with my best friend,” she said. “I then gave him a choice: her or me,” she added. The couple struggled, but: “Our relationship was not the same afterwards,” said Lijnen.
In order to get other thoughts, Lijnen wanted to take a short trip to Madrid – and De Bruyne provided the assist for the equalization with his consent: “Kevin said it was a good idea. I finally asked him beforehand,” said Lijnen . There’s a lot to see and a lot to do in Madrid – and you can meet a De Bruyne team-mate from the Belgian national team if you want: At the time, Chelsea FC loaned Thibaut Courtois to Atletico Madrid.
Affair? De Bruyne and Courtois can supposedly laugh about it
“Something happened there that shouldn’t have happened,” said Lijnen from the trip to Madrid, where she met Courtois. And the goalkeeper showed himself on the date as Anti-De-Bruyne and impressed the Belgian. “That evening Thibaut gave me everything that I hadn’t got in my relationship with Kevin. I could talk to him about anything and everything – and he even cooked me a great meal,” explained Lijnen. “Kevin had never done this for me,” she added.
The affair was settled because: “Kevin had disappointed me, so I thought: ‘Why shouldn’t I do that too?'” Said Lijnen. The midfielder and his family wanted her to remain silent about the complicated relationship with De Bruyne, but that did not go well for long.
Because when De Bruyne wrote about Lijnen’s affair with Courtois in his book ‘Keep it Simple’, Lijnen no longer felt bound by her promise to shut up and told the whole story from her point of view.
De Bruyne is said to have been horrified at first when he found out about his girlfriend’s affair. But now his relationship with Courtois is intact again. Which is also due to the fact that both players are newly awarded and the story is now almost a decade ago. De Bruyne and Courtois can now even laugh about the 1: 1 in a direct duel, as a spokesman for the Belgian association noted. And it really didn’t look like that shortly after the draw.
