Maria KeaneIlkay Gündogan is preparing his second career as a coach. The 31-year-old professional from Manchester City is a participant in the pilot project “Players Pathway” in the German Football Association (DFB).
DFB Director Oliver Bierhoff had “sent him the relevant documents before the outbreak of the Corona crisis,” said Gündogan of the Sport-Bild: “Now I am aiming for the coach -B-plus license. “
Other stars such as the 2014 world champions Sami Khedira and Christoph Kramer or the Gladbach professional Lars Stindl have also registered for the course, in which many parts can be held online.
He had “been thinking about how I could go on after my career for a long time, and in particular informed me about the job of the coach,” reported Gündogan. He felt “very privileged that I was able to experience or still experience so many top-class coaches myself with Pep Guardiola, Jürgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel, Hansi Flick and Jogi Löw”. He wants to “pass this experience on to young footballers”.
