Maria KeaneLiverpool FC wants to reduce plastic waste at its home ground at Anfield Road in the fight for environmental protection. Working with global corporation SC Johnson, the Reds announced a recycling model for the roughly 500,000 plastic bottles used in the stadium each season. The campaign runs under the name “Goals for Change”.
“We launched our ‘The Red Way’ sustainability program earlier this year and are committed to helping our people, our communities and our planet,” said Liverpool Commercial Director Matt Scammell.
In the future, fans should be able to throw their used plastic bottles into specially designed containers, and the plastic will then be used to make new drinking bottles.
In addition, other initiatives to promote sustainability, health and hygiene are planned in Liverpool as well as in the UK, Asia and Latin America as part of the campaign.
