Manchester City - Pep Guardiola punishes Phil Foden and Jack Grealish: "Pay attention to behavior"

In the 4-0 win over Newcastle United, the two ManCity stars Phil Foden and Jack Grealish only sat on the bench. After the game, coach Pep Guardiola commented on the reasons for this and criticized the behavior of the two players.

Just a few days earlier, Foden and Grealish had been part of the furious 7-0 victory over Leeds United. In the preparation for the Newcastle game, however, the two would have been noticed with negative behavior.

“That wasn’t a rotation, no,” said Guardiola after the encounter at the BBC clear. “I chose this team because they deserved to play today. These guys and not the others.”

The Skyblues coach “pays a lot of attention to behavior on and off the field during the Christmas season. And if you don’t behave properly outside the field, you won’t play either.” Therefore, both would have sat on the bench for the full 90 minutes.

Despite the packed PL schedule around the holidays, you have to be “focused and concentrated all the time,” said Guardiola. After Christmas, Manchester City has to run several times within a few days. After the game against Leicester (December 26th) the games against Brentford (December 29th) and Arsenal (January 1st) are on the program.
