Manchester City strive to win and secure championship lead

Manchester City have presented and will remain at the top of the Premier League after Matchday 16. The team around national player Ilkay Gündogan only struggled to a 1-0 (0-0) against Wolverhampton Wanderers, played one half in the majority and ultimately needed a penalty for the win: Raheem Sterling (66th) scored decisive.

Manchester now has 38 points on the account. In a sometimes heated first half, City had big problems bringing the defensively safe Wolves into real trouble. Manchester did not create real scoring opportunities, but had the numerical advantage after the break: The Mexican Raul Jimenez saw a completely unnecessary yellow-red (45th + 2) within just two minutes because he blocked a free kick from close range.

Wolverhampton was now even lower, City pressed, a header from Gündogans was the first good chance of the second half (55th). A good ten minutes later, the goal fell: Joao Moutinho jumped the ball to the hand, Sterling converted the penalty.
