Manchester United advances in the Champions League race

England’s record champions Manchester United have submitted in the race for the Champions League places. The team of team manager Erik ten Hag won 2-0 (1-0) against Wolverhampton Wanderers and after the last two defeats they won again.

Manchester remains fourth in the table, now four points ahead of Jürgen Klopps FC Liverpool, who can shorten again on Monday evening (9 p.m. / Sky) at Leicester City.

Chelsea made another mistake. The Londoners, who are playing a disastrous season and will miss out on international business, only managed a 2-2 (0-1) against relegation candidates Nottingham Forest. Kai Havertz was initially on the bench at Chelsea and was substituted on late. Former Bundesliga striker Taiwo Awoniyi (13’/62′) scored twice for Forest, while Raheem Sterling (51’/58′) also scored twice for Chelsea.

Southampton FC is the first relegated team, who lost 2-0 (0-0) against Fulham FC and can no longer catch up with two games left to play. Despite a strong final sprint, Tottenham Hotspur lost 1: 2 (0: 1) in the chasing duel at Aston Villa. Harry Kane (90′, penalty) brought the Spurs closer, another goal by former Bundesliga professional Heung-Min Son (90’+7) didn’t count.

Anthony Martial (32′) and Alejandro Garnacho (90′ + 5′) scored decisively for Manchester. The team drew level on points with Newcastle United, who had previously only drawn 2-2 (1-1) at Leeds United, but are still ahead of Manchester thanks to the better goal difference.
