Maria KeaneManchester United’s interim coach Ralf Rangnick has to defend himself against criticism at the start of his Premier League career.
“I think he deserves the right to be where he is. But I think he’s lucky to be the manager of Manchester United. I really think so,” said ex-Tottenham coach Tim Sherwood Sky Sports. “Nobody else wanted him. There was no fight for this man. The guy was available, they think he’s the best man for the job,” he said.
In the Premier League Rangnick celebrated two 1-0 victories with the Red Devils against Norwich and Crystal Palace, but according to Sherwood this is not yet conclusive. “I’m not a fan yet and I think it is right to be careful. We have to see an improvement at Man United. If they play the way he wants against the top teams, he can be trusted,” added he.
In the coming weeks, Rangnick and United will face comparatively simple tasks, the next real endurance test will take place on January 22nd against their direct neighbors West Ham United. The quarter-finals of the Champions League against Atletico Madrid will take place in mid-February, followed by duels against Manchester City, Tottenham and Liverpool FC.
