NBC signs new billion dollar deal with Premier League

The American TV giant NBC has secured the rights to the English Premier League for another six years. According to the New York Times newspaper, NBC is paying $ 2.7 billion. The Premier League thus underpinned its status as the most important overseas league in the USA.

The new contract is valid until 2028 and includes all 380 games of the season. NBC has been broadcasting the Premier League matches since 2013; the network had paid “only” 1.1 billion dollars (approx. 970 million euros) for the last deal.

The new agreement dwarfs all previous TV contracts with foreign soccer leagues in the USA. In May, ESPN paid $ 1.4 billion for the rights to the Spanish league, or around 175 million per season over eight years. The Premier League deal, on the other hand, brings about $ 450 million per season.

The Bundesliga has been broadcast in the USA on ESPN + since the 2020/21 season. The contract between the DFL and the US broadcaster belonging to the Walt Disney Company runs for six seasons. According to SPONSORs information, ESPN pays around 35 million euros per season for the broadcast rights.
