After Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s exit, the Red Devils initially presented his assistant Michael Carrick as a temporary solution. ManUnited: Redknapp strengthens Carrick

Redknapp, meanwhile, defended Carrick, who had celebrated a respectable win at the weekend with a 1-1 draw in the top game at leaders Chelsea FC. “Carrick is one of the most intelligent footballers,” Redknapp wrote of his former protégé at West Ham United: “He shouldn’t have been told he wasn’t going to be the next Manchester United head coach.”
