New manager at Manchester United? "Is it April 1st today?"

Manchester United have sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and Luis Enrique is also being discussed as a successor. But it doesn’t seem to be ready.

Spain’s national coach Luis Enrique is apparently not available as a possible successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was sacked on Sunday at Manchester United.

When asked about the rumors that he was one of the candidates for the position of coach at United, Enrique replied at La Sexta Meaningful: “Is it April 1st today?” When asked if he could imagine coaching a club the size of the Red Devils, the 51-year-old added: “I’m already with the biggest team in Spain with 5,000 players.”

Enrique’s contract with Spain’s association runs until the end of December 2022, until after the World Cup in Qatar next year. There the former Barca professional wants to lead the Furia Roja to the title if possible.

In addition to Enrique, Zinedine Zidane as the new coach of Manchester United is brought up for discussion. The Frenchman, who coached Real Madrid until the end of June, is currently without a club and, according to media reports, should be convinced of a commitment to the English record champions as soon as possible.

United announced the split from Solskjaer on Sunday morning following their embarrassing 4-1 defeat at Watford FC. The Norwegian had been in charge at Old Trafford since December 2018.
