Next cancellation on Boxing Day

Third game cancellation on Boxing Day of the Premier League in England: The game between Burnley FC and Everton FC scheduled for December 26th cannot take place due to the corona pandemic. The league announced on Friday.

The games between Liverpool FC and Leeds United and between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Watford FC had previously been canceled.

Everton had requested that the game be rescheduled in Burnley, as team manager Rafael Benitez was only available for nine outfield players due to injuries and corona cases. An alternative date is not fixed yet.

In the past two weeks, 13 Premier League games have been canceled. Great Britain suffers from the Omicron variant of the virus, more than 120,000 people were infected on December 23rd alone.

Meanwhile, the team managers are criticizing the league. Tottenham’s Antonio Conte said on Friday the virtual crisis meeting the day before was a waste of time. “The decision” about the game plan had already been made before the talks.

Norwich coach criticizes attachments: “madness”

On Monday the league decided to keep the dates over the holidays with the traditional Boxing Day (December 26th). Liverpool team manager Jürgen Klopp had already cleared his anger on Wednesday.

“I absolutely believe that one game would be enough, but what I say is not important,” he said sarcastically about the semi-finals in the league cup against Arsenal, which will be played in the first two weeks of January in the two legs target.

Norwich City’s Dean Smith also criticized the fixings. His team will face Arsenal on Sunday and Cristal Palace two days later. It was “insane,” said Smith, “that we have to play two games within 48 hours”. That also calls the competition into question.
