Premier League - 31 hours for a canceled game: Bad trip away from two Spurs fans

Two Spurs fans from the USA became famous for a trip they should never forget. Because great bad luck turned into a great adventure.

Which football fan doesn’t dream of seeing their favorite team live in the stadium? Not everyone has lost their heart to a club that is practically on their doorstep.

Football is a global affair and clubs have a growing number of supporters around the world. English clubs, for example, have a large number of fans in the USA, but they rarely get the chance to see their club’s matches live on site – and even less so in a pandemic.

But two Tottenham Hotspur fans wanted to know. Twitter user @ SaxyKeN17 from Dallas set out for Spurs’ away game at Burnley FC with a female companion at the end of November.

He himself summarized his crazy and probably not quite everyday trip as follows: “From Dallas to London to Burnley. 31 hours, no sleep, fueled by coffee, cheese crackers and more coffee. Freezing temperatures and snow are predicted for the game. Those are the things you do when you love your club.”

Game cancellation makes both fans famous

What he did not know at the time: The snow made both celebrities. Because on the day of the match itself, Burnley was hit by such masses of snow that the game had to be canceled despite all attempts to clear the place. How bitter for the two fans from Texas! But they didn’t even think about letting the weather and the circumstances spoil their mood and had a great time with other fellow sufferers in a local pub. “That’s what football is all about!” Wrote the fan on Twitter.

Their bad luck had long since spread via social media. They received numerous messages offering not only encouragement but also compensation. Channel 4’s video producer Kieron Bryan offered both of them a ticket for the Spurs’ next game against Brentford FC. Club icon Micky Hazard even named the two as his VIP guests for a meeting with Michael Dawson and Ledley King.

And as if these honors weren’t enough Then Harry Kane answered. “I’m really sorry for you! For your commitment and as compensation for the canceled game, I would like to invite you as my guests to a home game the next time you’re in London,” Kane posted on Twitter.

No sooner said than done: Both of them spent a few more days in London and experienced a time that they had probably never dreamed of when they left Dallas. And they also saw a Spurs home game live in the stadium. Finally on December 6th we went back home. In the luggage: priceless memories and some new friendships. These two will probably never complain about British weather again.
