Premier League: Shock for Chelsea in stoppage time

Manchester City took a big step towards defending their title in the last game of the year. The English champions won 1-0 (1-0) in the Premier League at Brentford FC and are now eight points ahead of their pursuers Chelsea.

Phil Foden scored the goal of the day for City in the 16th minute. With 50 points, Pep Guardiola’s team is now clearly ahead of Chelsea (42) and Liverpool (41). Jürgen Klopp’s team also messed up on Tuesday with a 0: 1 at Leicester City.

Chelsea FC, on the other hand, only conceded the equalizer in stoppage time in a 1-1 (1-0) win against Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday. However, the focus of the discussions after the game was again the video referee.

“That wasn’t right at all. We should have received a clear penalty. I’m very disappointed,” said Tuchel after the game Sky Sports: “We had problems today, but we have two injured players again. Something like that happens when the referee refuses to give us a penalty again, even though it was crystal clear. That was a 100 percent penalty.”

Reece James apparently more seriously injured

The Blues coach was furious about the lack of VAR intervention after Chelsea striker Christian Pulisic was knocked down in the penalty area in the second half. Tuchel: “It wasn’t even checked. Everything was against us.”

Defenders Reece James and Andreas Christensen also injured themselves. James even hobbled off the grounds on crutches after the game.

Belgian Romelu Lukaku put Chelsea in the lead in his first starting eleven since October 16 with a header (28th) before Danny Welbeck (90th + 1) equalized. National player Kai Havertz, unlike Timo Werner (Corona), sat on the bench for the first time since December 11, at least again, Antonio Rüdiger was in the starting line-up.

On January 2nd, Chelsea and Liverpool will also meet face to face. Manchester City is already challenged at Arsenal on New Years.
