Southgate extends contract and leads the Three Lions to the European Championships in Germany

Gareth Southgate remains team manager of the English national team and should lead the Three Lions at least until the European Championships in Germany in 2024. The 51-year-old extended his contract to December 2024 on Monday, as the English association FA announced.

“I’m very excited,” said Southgate: “It remains an incredible privilege to lead this team.”

Southgate, national coach for five years, led England to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The European Championship final in London in the summer was lost to Italy. By 2024, the first title since Wembley won the World Cup in 1966 at the World Cup in Qatar or the European Championship in Germany.

“We have a great opportunity ahead of us,” said Southgate, and everyone is excited to see “what this team can achieve in the future.”
