3rd league: Game canceled after the Corona outbreak at 1. FC Magdeburg

The corona virus is spreading massively in the third division soccer league table leader 1. FC Magdeburg. As the FCM announced on Wednesday, 13 players were infected and, after consulting the Magdeburg health department, went to quarantine at home.

This measure also applies to the direct contact persons. The league game next Saturday at FSV Zwickau has been canceled after consultation with the German Football Association (DFB). An alternative date is not fixed yet. Several people also tested positive at league competitor 1. FC Kaiserslautern. The Palatinate gave no information about the number of infected people. The training session on Tuesday was canceled.

“Those who tested positive are currently in quarantine at home, so far only mild progress has been made,” it said: “In addition, other players are currently suffering from flu-like infections.” On Wednesday, the training should be continued in coordination with the health department with all people who tested negative.

According to the club, all players at FCM have been vaccinated or have recovered. So far the disease has therefore only been mild. “We had a high number of flu sufferers in the past few days. With diseases like this in the current time of the corona pandemic, there is always a bad feeling. Unfortunately, this has been confirmed after extensive PCR testing,” said sports director Otmar Schork.

One continues to hope for a mild course of the disease. “Although all players were vaccinated or recovered, these breakthroughs came about. We are planning booster vaccinations for the team in the near future,” said Schork. Another extensive PCR test for the entire team, the coaching staff and the immediate team environment is planned for the coming days.
