Markus Schwabl will take on the role of sports director at SpVgg Unterhaching for the coming season. Teammate and captain Josef Welzmüller will also take on a role in the club next to the pitch and be the new technical director.

The two players will not be thrown in at the deep end, however, but have been working in the background in their new positions since the beginning of the year to gain initial experience. “We now had six months to look at all departments and exchanged views with all employees,” said Captain Welzmüller.

The president and father of the new sports director, Manfred Schwabl, also knows that this is not the typical career path. “Haching is known for taking a slightly different approach,” he said.

“The association is an affair of the heart for us and we would like to help to develop the association further.” Welzmüller is pleased about his new commitment.

Third division promoted Unterhaching recently had to make up for the departure of master coach Sandro Wagner, who will assist Hannes Wolf with Germany’s U-20s in the future. Marc Unterberger takes over as Wagner’s successor.
