BVB, News: Manuel Akanji was replaced

Borussia Dortmund had to deal with some bad news during the international break. And BVB’s long list of injuries could be extended even further: Manuel Akanji was replaced when Switzerland beat Northern Ireland 2-0 in qualifying for the World Cup.

As a reason for the replacement named the SRF Groin problems. “He was in pain early on,” said national coach Murat Yakin afterwards. An exact diagnosis was still pending. His use in the next qualifying game for the Swiss in Lithuania on Tuesday is questionable.

Previously, the Dortmund winger Raphael Guerreiro had torn a fiber in the Portuguese national team. The 27-year-old is also missing Portugal for the upcoming games against Qatar on Saturday and against Luxembourg on October 12th. Thorgan Hazard also returned prematurely from the Belgian national team. A number of players are currently out at BVB, including the exceptional striker Erling Haaland (Norway) and goalkeeper Gregor Kobel (Switzerland). BVB, News: Pongracic describes Haaland as “positively crazy”

BVB newcomer Marin Pongracic knows Erling Haaland well from times together at Red Bull Salzburg, in 2019 both played together for the Austrian series champions. Pongracic described the reunion in Dortmund as “great”.

“We were happy to be playing in a team again,” said Pongracic in an interview on the BVB website. “In human terms, he has not changed at all, although he is now a star.
