Maria KeaneBundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen and Brazilian left-back Wendell go their separate ways after seven years. As the club announced on Thursday evening, the 28-year-old is moving to the Portuguese top club FC Porto. Wendell has played a total of 250 competitive games for Leverkusen, more than any other Brazilian. There was no information about the replacement modalities.
Wendell’s contract in Leverkusen would have expired next year. He came to Leverkusen from Gremio Porto Alegre in 2014 and will receive a contract with his new club in Portugal until 2025.
“With us, Wendell has developed from a reserved young guy to a seasoned professional who has always identified himself passionately with Bayer 04,” said sporting director Simon Rolfes, who was still on the pitch with Wendell: “He makes an impression here and is always welcome to us in the future. “
Wendell emphasized that it was important for him to “now accept a new challenge”.
